It is an every day reality to make a living- a life- in Eretz Israel. And to do that, one needs the full support of his community, family and fellow citizens. From what I have seen, Israelis do not want to offer that support. They will gladly take donations but will not reciprocate. The Western-Israeli relationship is utterly one-sided. Western would-be olim are routinely treated with disdain and like an abused wife many keep coming back for more. Enough! It is high time to say to Israel and Israelis that every relationship requires two partners and if they do not want to deal with Westerners and the West, they should foresake foreign aid and aliyah and go it alone.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12814990.post-1130338259345850882005-10-26T16:50:00.000+02:002005-10-26T16:50:00.000+02:00CosmicX - thanks. Since my last posting, the car has 'fainted' again and the gear warning light appeared on the dash - again.
We have indeed had enough and will be trying to enforce some Israeli consumer rights as of tomorrow.

KICblog back later tonight...Michael Lawrencehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11812608992006091115noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12814990.post-1130335842387741882005-10-26T16:10:00.000+02:002005-10-26T16:10:00.000+02:00My father-in-law once had trouble with his volkswa...My father-in-law once had trouble with his volkswagen, and the local dealership was not particularly helpful. He wrote an email to the company in Germany explaining his plight. The next day the dealer called him, apologizing profusely, and promptly fixed what needed fixing. I imagine that an email to Renault in France will solve your problems.Cosmic Xhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13880746347107372827noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12814990.post-1129664275998507162005-10-18T21:37:00.000+02:002005-10-18T21:37:00.000+02:00For years "L'shana Haba B'yerusalim" just reminded...For years "L'shana Haba B'yerusalim" just reminded me that I wasn't in Israel yet.

This year, despite the fact there are days when I would happliy pack up and leave, I know I am fufilling my dream, and the dream that has been kept alive by generations.

I think it was Ben Gurion that said "I dream of the day that a Jewish policeman will be arresting Jewish prostitutes on street corners".

The dream of a country with all the problems of the western world is alive and we're lucky enough to be living it.

Aliya may or may not be everyone, I would love to say it is, but hey, life's not that straight forward and many get accostomed to life elsewhere.

I am pleased to be a flag baring, card carrying Israeli and there's not all that much I would change!ifyouwillit...https://www.blogger.com/profile/12399924134798730080noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12814990.post-1129531364756436302005-10-17T08:42:00.000+02:002005-10-17T08:42:00.000+02:00I disagree with you on one fundemental point, I be...I disagree with you on one fundemental point, I believe that Aliyah is for everybody. We don't know how lucky we are. As someone who has an aging father, the one comment that I was constantly hearing growing up was 'You don't know how lucky you are to live in a time where we have a state'. And i never realised the truth about this statement until later on in life.
We take Israel for granted and don't know a time where it wasn't there, we don't know what it is to be a Jew where we had no place to call home, no place where all the things that Michael writes happened.
Of course it's not perfect here, and I love that about the place. I have lived in London and New York and I can tell you countless examples of people getting ripped off over there. How is it possible that one or two peoples rudeness can counteract a desire brooding in our ancestors for 2,000 years? How is it that one unscrupulous merchant can make us re-think a move that our great-great grandparents would have sacrificed(and sometimes did) to experience for one minute?
Someone who would not make Aliayh because of these circumstances is someone who would never make Aliayh anyway and is looking for an excuse. Who could possibly expect a not even 60 year old country who has fought so many wars and brought in half its inhabitants from the far reaches of the globe to be perfect?
I made Aliyah nearly 5 years ago and my only regret is I didn't come 5 years before that. Loving every minute of it!
We shouldn't have to justify the actions of every Israeli to potential Olim, we should explain to them they can give back to Israel and its people.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12814990.post-1129478281537084252005-10-16T17:58:00.000+02:002005-10-16T17:58:00.000+02:00Which Renault dealer do you go to?
